How to manage your home school event organization notifications: Now we will look further into the Personal Online Messaging System (POMS). Notice in the MYpostings tab that you have made 4 Co-Op Group postings. More on the MYpostings page later, but note in the upper right of the screen that you have new private messages. Clicking the private messaging link at the upper right will take you to the POMS dashboard. The POMs (Messages) are sorted chronologically with the newest message at the top of the listing. So to read your first POM, go to the last entry with a "sealed" envelope icon. If necessary, as in this case, click the "next page" link at the lower right of the page to go deeper into the listings, then click the last unopened message. Now you see the entire message; this one is a system notification from HSsegue home school online community, as opposed to a direct message from a user. System notifications have no reply function. This message indicates that a member has submitted 2 applicants (Linda and Leo) to your Posting ID#543 - Spelling Made Easy. Notice the link in the message that sends you to your MYpostings, Manage Participants page to take action on the new enrollees, if desired. Clicking this link opens a new browser window, so when finished taking action it is best to close the window and return to the message frame. More on the Manage Participants function in our segment on MYpostings. Now you may close, delete, or archive the message about your home school event organization with the links in the upper right - deleting unimportant system messages after reading them is best so as not to clutter your inbox. You will also get replies from home school support groups / members when you act on their applications and questions, notice in this message how the member has a green dot after her username indicating she is now online. Click the message to open it. You can also see by scrolling down that, since this is a response directly from a home school organization / user, there is a Reply box that you should use for responding to the message. There are also various "smileys" for expressing emotion and formatting options for your reply. Just highlight the text that you would like to format by dragging your cursor over it and click the formatting button. This is an example with color and joy. Notice the funky (geeky) codes to indicate the formatting. Also notice the "trash original" checkbox at the bottom - if you leave this checked, the original message from the user will be deleted from your inbox. This is a good idea to leave this checked in order to keep your inbox clean since when it gets too full older messages will be deleted. But for really important information, you will want to uncheck this box. Here is what your message looks like on the recipient's end. One more note on functionality - if there are groups of users to whom you would like to send group messages, just create a home school event organization Contact list. Click Contacts in the POMS menu bar, then "Create new contact list". Now name your group and select the users you would like to include by clicking their names and the left arrow button to add them. Then click Send to add the group to your home school organization POMS account. Now select your group from the Contacts pull-down after clicking Compose in the main POMS menu and compose your message to send to the group. This it on POMS Messaging |
