MIT is joining a growing community of institutions offering free access to exceptional online course-work. In the future, kids will have another outstanding alternative for high-quality distributed education. Following the lead set by the likes of Academic Earth and Kahn Academy,

this Spring MIT will launch MITx to offer free coursework along with a credential that will provide students with an incentive for mastering the materials.

For those families and students seeking STEM education, online access to this coursework should prove to be an educational boon. Of course, the MIT formal degrees will still require admission and fees, but wow - this is something very exciting to us geeks!  MIT Launches MITx!
